Maintenance Report for March 2010

We are currently remoldeling the side entrance to the church. We will upgrade everything from the top landing at the church foyer, down the steps, and all the way to the bathrooms. Work is progressing but is taking longer than expected because of electrical problems (no great shock there).

We replaced the original breaker box (1925). We are also tracing wires to see what they do. Some of the lights and receptacles in the kitchen and furnace room are operated from the new panel box. These will be relocated to the kitchen panel box. Some of the wiring is not up to the safety code and will be replaced. All the two prong receptacles will be replaced with grounded three prong receptacles. There will be new

lighting on the steps and landings. We are also putting in exit lights and emergency lights. When finished it will look bright, inviting and will be up to safety and electricalcodes.

We are still undecided about what will replace the carpet on the landings. Once we remove the carpet we will see what is beneath we will have a clearer idea on what we can do. I hope to put in ceramic, non-slip tile on the landings. When finished, we will start on the bathrooms. I think all will agree they need to be updated... more like gutted and redone. Keep eating pizza! It's good for you and good for our church.

Coming Soon to our Parish

We are replacing the paraffin candles with a new electric candle stand (similar to the picture). Everyone will agree that candles are more pleasant but the black soot they give off isn't. We just spent a lot of money to get the chandelier fixed and cleaned. Already it is losing its sparkle. The newly repaired stained glass windows already have a coating on them. Take a good look at our Stations of the Cross and see what candle soot does to marble over time.

We will grow used to the electric candles in time. The new electric candle stand will cost $4000.00 which seems like a lot of money. But then again, compared with cleaning the chandelier, the stained glass windows, the marble, and repainting the inside of the church, it is a great deal cheaper in the long run.

If you would like to dedicate the new candle stand in memory of a loved one please let me know. If we can get one or more donors, that would help our parish. We will place a brass olaaue on the stand in memorv of vour loved ones.
